Björn Braun was born in 1979 in Berlin, Germany. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts,
Karlsruhe (2007). Braun has been the subject of many solo exhibitions,
including at Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany (2012); Radiceterna Arte e Ambiente,
Palermo, Italy (2018); and Kunsthaus Baselland, Muttenz, Switzerland (2019). He has also
participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Opera Rock – Jean-Luc Blanc, CAPC,
Musée d’Art Contemporain de Bordeaux, (2009); Excellent!, Museum Art Plus, Donaueschingen,
Germany (2012); The Nest, Katonah Museum of Art, New York, NY (2016); Nischenhain,
Simultanhalle, Cologne, Germany (2017); Creatures: When Species Meet, Contemporary Arts
Center, Cincinnati, OH (2019); and The Island of the Colorblind, Art Sonje Center, Seoul, South
Korea (2019). Braun currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
This exhibition brings together an international coterie of artists and academics that enlist this untamed, “wild” other as partners in the production of art. From Florentine architecture and Mannerist painting to Hollywood film, Japanese anime, and the impossible bodies of video game fantasy, Julien Nguyen builds hybrid histories to pose contemporary queries.
