Barbara Bloom was born in 1951 in Los Angeles, CA. She received her BFA in 1972 from California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA. Bloom has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including The Diamond Lane, Museum Boymans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, The Netherlands (1980); Just Past, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA (1996); The Collections of Barbara Bloom, International Center of Photography, New York, NY (2008); and Barbara Bloom: Framing Wall, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (2015). She has also participated in several group exhibitions, including Westkunst: Zeitgenössische Kunst seit 1939, Museum der Stadt, Cologne, Germany (1981); Hall of Mirrors. Art and Film Since 1945, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL (1996); The Pictures Generation, 1974-1984, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY (2009); and Brand New: Art and Commodity in the 1980s, The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington D.C. (2018). Bloom currently lives and works in New York, NY.
