Art Green was born in 1941 in Frankfort, IN. He studied painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Green has been the subject of various solo exhibitions, including at the Owens Art Gallery, Mt. Alison University, New Brunswick, Canada (1973); Cambridge Public Library and Gallery, Ontario, Canada (1991); and University of Waterloo Art Gallery, Ontario, Canada (2010). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Vegetable, Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, IL (1965); Hairy Who, Visual Arts Gallery, New York, NY; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC (1969); Chicago Currents: The Koffler Foundation Collection, National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC (1979); Chicago Loop: Imagist Art, 1949-1979, Whitney Museum of American Art at Champion, Stamford, CT (2000); Always, Always, Others: Non-Classical Forays into Modernism, Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien, Vienna, Austria (2015-16); and Private Eye: The Imagist Impulse in Chicago Art, Indianapolis Museum Of Art, Indianapolis, IN (2021).
