Biography

Arman (Armand Pierre Fernandez) was born in 1928 in Nice, France. He studied at Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice, France. He has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions, including Arman: Les Olympiens, Galerie Iris Clert, Paris, France (1958); A Tribute to Arman, Marlborough Gallery, New York, NY (2006); and Arman: Think Things, Alien Art Centre, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan (2023). Arman has also participated in various group exhibitions, including Painting and Sculpture of a Decade: 1954–1964, Tate Gallery, London, UK (1964); Pipe, Glass, Bottle of Rum: The Art of Appropriation, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (2008); and Matter. Non-Matter. Anti-Matter., Center for Art & Media, Karlsruhe, Germany (2023). Arman died in 2005 in New York, NY.
