Artist Details
Ann Hamilton was born in 1956 in Lima, OH. She received her BFA in 1979 from University of Kansas and her MFA in 1985 from Yale University. She has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, Santa Barbara, CA (1985); Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC (1991); Stedelijk Van Abbe Museum, Eindhoven, The Netherlands (1996); Museum of National Antiquities, Stockholm, Sweden (2004); and Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães Guimarães, Portugal (2018). She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Elements: Five Installations, Whitney Museum of American Art at Philip Morris, New York, NY (1988); Cool & Multiples: Work from The Fabric Workshop’s Permanent Collection, The Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia, PA (1994); Parallels and Intersections: Art/Women/California 1950-2000, San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, CA (2002); New Media/New Materials: Highlights in Contemporary Art from the Fabric Workshop and Museum, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2007); The Human Touch: Selections from the RBC Wealth Management, Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, CT (2016); and Being Theoria, Zhejiang Art Museum, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China (2022). Hamilton currently lives and works in Columbus, OH.
