Multidisciplinary artist Ambreen Butt was born in 1969 in Lahore, Pakistan. She received her BFA in 1993 from National College of Arts in Lahore, PA and her MFA in 1997 from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, MA. Butt has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at Worcester Art Museum, Worcester, MA (2003); Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA (2006); USA Embassy, Islamabad, Pakistan (2016); and National Museum for the Women in the Arts, Washington, DC (2018). She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Collectors Collect Contemporary 1990-1999, Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, MA (1999); Tale Spinning, The Drawing Center, New York, NY (2004); Realms of Intimacy: Miniaturist practice from Pakistan, Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, OH (2011); and What We Do in the Shadows, de Cordova Museum of Art, Lincoln, MA (2021). Butt currently lives and works in Dallas, TX.
