Alexandre Benois was born in 1870 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Benois graduated with a degree in Law in 1894 from Saint Petersburg Imperial University. He was a founding member of Mir iskusstva, a Russian art movement and magazine. In 1926, Benois emigrated to Paris, France where he was a designer for multiple ballet companies, including de Basil’s Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo, Ballet of La Scala, and London Festival Ballet. He also designed for opera, theatre, and film. Benois died in 1960 in Paris, France.
