Artist Details
Sculptor Alberto Giacometti was born in 1901 in Borgonovo, Switzerland. He studied at the Beaux-Arts and School of Arts et Metiers in Geneva, Switzerland. He has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at Bündner Kunstmuseum, Chur, Switzerland (1978); Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (1996); and Musée des Beaux Arts de Caen, Caen, France (2008). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Celebrating Modern Art - The Anderson Collection, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art San Francisco, CA (2000); Surrealism - Desire Unbound, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY (2002); and Cézanne + Beyond, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA (2009). Giacometti died in 1966 in Chur, Switzerland.
