Conceptual artist Agnes Denes was born in 1931 in Budapest, Hungary. She attended the New School and Columbia University, both in New York, NY. Denes has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at Institute of Contemporary Art, London, UK (1979); Chelsea Museum, New York, NY (2004); Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica, CA (2012); and Sakıp Sabancı Museum, Sabancı University, Emirgan, Istanbul (2022). She has been the subject of numerous group exhibitions, including Software, Jewish Museum, New York, NY (1970); Adding It Up; Print Acquisitions 1970–1995, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1995); Green Acres: Artists Farming Fields, Greenhouses and Abandoned Lots, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2012); and The Irreplaceable Human: The Conditions of Creativity in the Age of AI, Louisiana Museum of Art, Humlebæk, Denmark (2023).
