Biography

Painter, printmaker, and sculptor Adolph Gottlieb was born in 1903 in New York, NY. He has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Jewish Museum, New York, NY (1957); American Academy of Arts and Letters, New York, NY (1975); American Contemporary Art Galleries, Munich, Germany (1995); Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice, Italy (2010); and Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Provincetown, MA (2018). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Paintings By Artists Under 40, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (1941); New York and Paris: Painting in the Fifties, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX (1959); Aesthetics in Japanese Art: Form and Colour, National Museum of Art, Osaka, Japan (1977); Der Blaue Reiter: Jawlensky, Kandinsky and Beyond, Museum Wiesbaden, Wiesbaden, Germany (2010); and Western Arts in the 20th Century Through Printmaking: The Challenge of Artists, Takamatsu Art Museum, Kagawa, Japan (2023). Gottlieb died in 1974 in New York, NY.
