The Basement: Black Box Lab
Accepting Residency Applications
Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) in Cincinnati invites proposals from grassroots arts organizations and groups to participate in The Basement: CAC’s Black Box Lab.
Supported by The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr. Foundation, this is a residency-style opportunity in the CAC’s Black Box Theater for public programming occurring between September 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026.
The deadline for applications is
Friday August 8, 2025.
What’s Included
Selected participants will receive:
- Up to 13 days/evenings of access to CAC’s Black Box Theater for public events and private sessions
- Marketing support, such as inclusion in CAC’s email newsletter and social media
- Access to venue support and equipment (house staff, basic tech consultation, security, seating)
- Guidance from CAC staff
- Ticketing via CAC’s Passage platform (with proceeds going to participant)
- Additional benefits, including CAC membership and tickets to our annual gala
Proposal Guidelines
Please submit a brief proposal in a single .pdf file that includes:
- Your organization's mission (for nonprofits) or a 1 – 2 sentence statement of purpose (for groups without 501c3 status)
- A brief description of your existing programming
- A summary of your current marketing plan and how you engage your audiences (250 words or less)
- 2–3 sentences describing how you would use the theater (types of events, intended audience, etc.)
